Life under A siege!
Our lives as human beings depend on the foundation that nature builds for us. We eat, work, play, rest and sleep. We commute, we work, and we live to see the next day. We engage with nature at every stage of our daily lives. This art, or science, if we may call life science is under a siege, which is the consequence of our own actions.
More evident than ever, the climate crisis is at our doorsteps. Knocking gently and fiercely. With every knock comes new challenges that reinforces the existing siege and erase the very foundation that gives life to us.
Today, the air we breathe got polluted minute by minute. The water we drink, swim and play is becoming scarce and scanty daily. The food we eat is now facing the biggest threats. Drought and changing climatic conditions have put enormous pressure on the food systems. The food supply chains are contending with the disruption caused by drought, flooding and wildfires from North to South. Indeed, hunger and malnutrition are ravaging the globe mercilessly especially the global south.
Now the World and our lives are at a crossroads!
If we can’t find anything with the present planetary and social conditions, then we cease to be normal human beings. But whatever we think we are, we ought to think twice and make a choice. To be either senseless mortals or responsible, forward-looking and rational human beings.
As senseless mortals, we may choose to live on earth without any responsibility. Living without a responsibility is a life without a purpose! Without a purpose, we continue to be pessimists, and deny the fact that our lifestyle is harming the environment. We can continue to maintain the status quo, encouraging wastage, pursuing a linear consumption habit and play dumb to the calling of help by our dear planet!
On the other, we may choose to be responsible human beings living with a purpose and vision! With this, we can break the siege that we laid on our lives. We must embrace sustainable lifestyles and make circularity the order of the day. We must pledge to pass on a clean, green and sustainable planet to the next generation.
In my future blogs, I will unveil strategies that we ought to pursue to keep the pledge alive!
